The provincial government created a new and permanent emergency coordination team Thursday in order to fix flaws in the system.


Two weeks ago, Auditor General Jacques Lapointe released a report saying there was no clear chain of command in cases of an emergency hitting the province. He said without proper coordination the system could fall into confusion.


The NDP took steps to address the report Thursday by naming an executive leadership committee that includes Emergency Management Minister Ramona Jennex, as well as various emergency management staff and deputy ministers.


It can also be expanded as required. In the case of an outbreak of Influenza A (H1N1), also known as swine flu, it will include members of the health and health promotion departments as well as the chief medical officer.

The minister has always had authority to strike such a group, but legislation must be updated to make it permanent. The group will meet regularly but more often when there is an emergency.
