Province logs 1.5M visitors in ’10

The province has welcomed almost 1.5 million visitors during the first eight months of 2010.

According to reports released by the Department of Tourism, the province had 1,481,300 visitors from January through August — two per cent more visitors than the same period last year.

“We are seeing a positive trend in the number of visitors to the province,” Percy Paris, the minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, said in a release.

For August specifically, tourism numbers are up two per cent compared with 2009.

Room nights are down three per cent for the month while road travel has increased by two per cent in August and four per cent for the year.
