A byelection date has been set for the vacant MLA spot in the Calgary-Glenmore constituency, the province announced Monday.

Lt.-Gov. Norman Kwong signed an order in council Monday morning authorizing Alberta’s acting chief electoral officer to issue a writ of election, with Sept. 14 as the voting day.

Vying for the spot are Alberta Liberal Party candidate Dr. Avalon Roberts, PC candidate and current Calgary alderman, Dianne Colley-Urquhart and NDP candidate Eric Carpendale.

The seat was vacated May 15 when Deputy Premier Ron Stevens resigned from politics and was later appointed a Court of Queen’s bench judge by the federal government.
