Public servants set $20M United Way goal

There is a perception public service employees were insulated from the recent economic downturn, but Canada Revenue Service Commissioner and CEO William Baker knows that’s not the case.

“We’ve got spouses. We’re got kids, friends and neighbours who were affected,” said Baker, chairman of this year’s Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign to benefit the United Way. “The public service has a really strong resolve to make sure that this campaign is a success.”

The goal of this year’s campaign, which launched Thursday, is to raise $20.5 million over the next 10 weeks. Traditionally, the GCWCC raises half the funds for the United Way’s annual campaign.
