Looks like Puerto Rico won’t be a part of the Premier Basketball League next season.
Andre Levingston, league president and owner of the Halifax Rainmen, told Metro yesterday no teams from Puerto Rico are expected to take to the court for the upcoming campaign.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen this year,” he said. “It might be something for the future.”
The PBL president had submitted a proposal to the Baloncesto Superior Nacional openly inviting the league’s 11 teams to join his circuit. There was one team from Puerto Rico playing in the PBL last season.
One of the main components of this proposal was shifting the PBL’s schedule to begin in October and end in January. The PBL normally runs from January to April.
A deadline of July 26 was given to have a deal in place with BSN — and that passed with nothing.
In other franchise news, Levingston said he was “very optimistic” the Vermont Frost Heaves will be back next season. The team was trying to raise $100,000 to stay afloat.
With Vermont, six teams would be lined up for next season — with Levingston hopeful of at least three more clubs being finalized before a schedule is done up later next month.

The Saint John Millrats, it is. The newest Maritime team in the PBL announced yesterday it was keeping the same team that was used when the club played out of Manchester, N.H. Manchester relocated to Saint John, N.B., this off-season.
