A Florida man got what he deserved when one of the seven puppies he was trying to kill placed its paw on his gun and shot him, according to the Associated Press.

Jerry Allen Bradford, 37, of Pensacola decided to shoot the 3-month-old shepherd-mix dogs in the head because he couldn’t find them a home, the AP report said.

He was holding one dog in his arm and a second in his hand when the one in his hand got loose, and stepped on the trigger of his.38-caliber revolver and discharged.

Bradford was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to his wrist, and is facing an animal cruelty charge. Though a warrant for his arrest is still under review.

Authorities found four of the puppies still alive, which appear to be in good health, according to the AP. Escambia County Animal Control plans to make them available for adoption.
