Friesen found in her research that 43 states in the U.S. have implemented therapy dogs in the same manner as she had.
“I was shocked because I had never heard of this” said Friesen.
Four provinces in Canada have now also followed suit in this learning tool.
There are also organizations in China, Australia, Prague and India that Friesen has found using canine-assisted learning.
“I can’t believe that all over the world there are these programs immerging, and yet there’s no research on how children are experiencing this and why are they so drawn to repeatedly wanting to read to these dogs.”
