QMJHL Roundup: A look at Friday’s games

The production continues to increase for Jonathan Brunelle.

Brunelle scored once and set up three more as his Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defeated the visiting Acadie-Bathurst Titan 7-3 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The second-year forward also had three points against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Tuesday, giving him seven points in his last two outings and 11 in his last five.

Alexandre Lavoie scored three times for the Screaming Eagles (19-27-2), and Kyle Farrell had a goal and an assist while Cory MacIntosh and Dany Potvin chipped in a goal apiece.

William Cochrane, Zach O’Brien and Sebastien Trudeau each had a goal for the Titan (24-21-5).

Philippe Trudeau made 36 saves for the win was Jacob Brennan allowed four goals on 18 shots before being pulled after two periods.

Tyler Piercy stopped six shots in relief.

Cape Breton went 2 for 4 on the power play while Acadie-Bathurst failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Blainville-Boisbriand 6, Moncton 1; P.E.I. 3, Baie-Comeau 2; Rimouski 5, Gatineau 2; Drummondville 6, Rouyn-Noranda 4; Chicoutimi 7, Val-d’Or 6 and Quebec 4, Shawinigan 3 (SO).

At Sydney, N.S., Cochrane scored 4:26 into the first period to give Acadie-Bathurst a 1-0 lead, but Lavoie replied for Cape Breton at 9:58.

The Screaming Eagles dominated the second period, scoring three straight goals for a 4-1 edge.

Lavoie scored his second of the game, by way of power play, at 10:09, Brunelle followed him up at 13:53 and then with less than a minute remaining in the period Potvin added one more.

Lavoie completed his hat trick, on the power play, 6:59 into the third, but O’Brien scored for the Titan 27 seconds later.

Farrell and Trudeau then exchanged goals before MacIntosh added one more for Cape Breton into an empty net.

At Moncton, N.B., Felix Plouffe set up three goals as Blainville-Boisbriand (26-19-3) maintained their lead atop the West Division standings with a win over the Wildcats (22-22-5).

Rocket 3 Drakkar 2

At Charlottetown, Ben Duffy scored once and set up two others as P.E.I. (14-30-4) snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Baie-Comeau (24-20-4).

Oceanic 5 Olympiques 2

At Rimouski, Que., Francis Beauvillier and Alexandre Mallet had a goal and an assist each to lead the Oceanic (29-21-0) over Gatineau (19-21-8).

Voltiguers 6 Huskies 4

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Guillaume Gauthier scored twice as Drummondville (20-25-6) earned at least one point in its fourth straight game with a win over the Huskies (15-28-5).

Sagueneens 7 Foreurs 6

At Val-d’Or, Que., five players on Chicoutimi (24-16-9) recorded a multi-point game, including Mathieu Gagnon who had two goals and an assist, in a win over the Foreurs (21-25-4).

Remparts 4 Cataractes 3 (SO)

At Shawinigan, Que., Anthony Duclair scored the winner in the sixth round of the shootout as Quebec (31-11-6) moved to within five points of the Cataractes (34-11-5), who sit atop the East Division.
