Quebec couple rescue unconscious woman from vehicle submerged in Newfoundland pond

TREPASSEY, N.L. – A couple of passersby are being credited with helping to save the life of a woman trapped in a vehicle submerged in a pond in Newfoundland.

RCMP say a vehicle on Route 10 near Biscay Bay landed in the water Tuesday morning after swerving to avoid an ATV crossing the road.

There were two women inside – one got out, but the other was trapped in the vehicle.

Police say a man and woman from Quebec just happened to be travelling in the area when they came upon the accident scene.

They went into the water and freed the unconscious woman, who was revived by medical personnel and airlifted to hospital in stable condition.

RCMP say the Good Samaritans do not want to be identified, adding that they said they were just doing what had to be done.
