USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)
Label: Smashing World Records
What this record needs is more cowbell. Everything else is on this genre-bending CD. So why not cowbell? The duo who comprise USS have gone out of their way here to encompass all aspects of modern pop. One minute you think you’ve got some ’70s keyboard progster on the spin, the next it’s A Flock of Seagulls (sorry, that was below the belt). There’s bad sci-fi space rock, scratching rap and hip-hop dance beats, Oasis-like psychedelia, old school funk and maybe even a hint of Blue Oyster Cult, not to mention rolling seascapes, crickets, howling coyotes and campfire crackles. This is a record that’s sure to create lots of buzz (it actually started last year) and then ultimately turn everybody off.
