Quinpool booze sales without food mulled

What does a guy have to do to get a drink around Quinpool Road?

As the rule currently stands, he has to buy a meal.

But proposed amendments to the Halifax Regional Municipality’s planning strategy could change that.

Tomorrow regional council will debate whether restaurants with lounges should be allowed to operate on Quinpool.

Currently, restaurants require patrons to buy a meal if they want to imbibe alcohol. The recommendations coming from Peninsula Community Council, however, would allow establishments to include a lounge.

The proposed amendment would require lounges to close no later than midnight, as well as not exceed over 50 per cent of the establishment’s total seating.

Currently, Freeman’s Little New York and Season’s Bistro in the Atlantica Hotel operate lounge licences, after being grandfathered into the Municipal Planning Strategy.
