Rainmen end pre-season on a high

The Halifax Rainmen wrapped up the Premier Basketball League pre-season on a high.

The Rainmen finished with a 3-1 record after beating the host Quebec Kebs a 111-105 yesterday, two days after topping them 114-104 on Friday before a crowd of 1,973 at the Metro Centre.

“This was by far our best game, there’s no question about it,” said Rainmen head coach Les Berry. “Defensively we played really well, offensively we were moving the ball and hitting shots, and we played a good team basketball game.”

The game was tied at 95 in the fourth quarter before the Rainmen put it away with their “best eight minutes of the pre-season,” according to Berry.

Eric Crookshank, Marshall Brown and Desmond Ferguson stayed in Halifax and didn’t make the trip.

The Rainmen, who released centre Cyril Awere on the weekend, have nine players signed and four who are still trying out.

The Rainmen open the season at home against the Vermont Frost Heaves on Sunday, Jan. 2, at 3 p.m.
