The Halifax Rainmen have added depth at the guard position with the training-camp arrivals of Adris DeLeon and Tajuan Porter.
DeLeon is a familiar face for Rainmen fans. The six-foot point guard averaged 9.2 points in 10 appearances with the club last season before leaving to train with the Dominican Republic’s national team.
Porter just finished his senior NCAA Division I season with the Oregon Ducks after setting the Pac 10 Conference record with 345 career three-pointers on .385 shooting.
He averaged 14.3 points per game over four seasons.
Rainmen owner Andre Levingston called DeLeon an “aggressive scorer” who can “break people down off the dribble” and described Porter as “an amazing shooter.”
“We’re rockin’ and rollin’,” Levingston said from training camp in Moncton. “Guys are competing extremely hard, as they should be. They’re trying to impress the coaches and compete for jobs.”
The Rainmen now have 18 at camp, with DeLeon, Porter, Damon Powell and Kavon Jones joining the 14 players who showed up for media day on Monday.
The Rainmen are practising twice a day, with two-hour sessions starting at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The first cuts will be made after Saturday’s intrasquad game, which wraps up the Moncton portion of camp.
Ten players will make the final roster.
