Rainmen’s Bennett ‘leaning toward a deal in Belgium’

The Halifax Rainmen’s top scorer is eyeing a contract overseas and could have a new home next season.

Guard Tony Bennett, who averaged 19.4 points per game last season, told Metro Halifax yesterday he is “leaning toward a deal in Belgium.” He said he wants to decide soon because he doesn’t want to “hold (the Rainmen) up any longer.”

Rainmen owner Andre Levingston is still negotiating with Bennett and has labelled the speedster as his top priority to re-sign in his effort to build a championship team.

Bennett was 13th in Premier Basketball League scoring in 2009 and led the circuit with 3.1 steals per game.

Levingston confirmed he has tabled contract offers to a number of players as he looks to start shaping his 2010 roster, but said he has not agreed to terms with anyone yet.
