Rainmen sign point guard Ramey

The Halifax Rainmen have added a 12th player to their roster, signing 6-foot-3 point guard Zachary Ramey.

The 27-year-old is a former NCAA Division III player at Benedectine in Illinois who worked out with Rainmen head coach Rick Lewis this past summer in Chicago.

Ramey wrapped up his college career in 2005 and has floated around with various professional teams, most recently with the Rockford Fury of the Premier Basketball League and several clubs in the International Basketball League.

“Zach will give us the added depth we need at the guard position,” Rainmen owner Andre Levingston said. “He’s a great scorer, defender and ball handler.”

Ramey played a pair of PBL exhibition games against the Rainmen in Halifax last week as a tryout with the Chicago Throwbacks. He averaged 18 points per game and shot 8-of-18 from three-point range.

The Rainmen have three other guards on the roster: SirValiant Brown, Jimmy Twyman and Kevin Hammack.

The team opens the PBL season on Friday night on the road against the Quebec City Kebs at 8:30 p.m.
