Rainmen triumph in Buffalo

The Halifax Rainmen snapped a three-game losing skid on the road against the Buffalo Stampede on Saturday night.

The Halifax Rainmen snapped a three-game losing skid on the road against the Buffalo Stampede on Saturday night.

Rob Sanders didn't hit the court until late in the third quarter because of a calf injury but still managed to drop 17 points to lead the Rainmen to a 112-108 win in Premier Basketball League play. The 6-foot-8 power forward was in and out of practice all week and is being used on an as-needed basis.

"We needed his spark," said Rainmen head coach Rick Lewis. "If we don't need him, we don't play him, but if we need what he does, if we need him to be able to spark and open the game up, then we'll have to use him. We've got to manage his time with (his injury)."

Jimmy Twyman dropped 20 points, Glen Dandridge had 19 and Zach Ramey chipped in with 12. Cordell Jeanty had 10 rebounds.

The Rainmen (4-3) are leaving Buffalo at 3 a.m. Sunday to get back to Halifax for a 4 p.m. rematch against the Stampede at the Metro Centre. Sanders will not start and will only be inserted if necessary, while Brian Silverhorn will miss another game with a knee injury.
