Rangers closes gap to Celtic with rout of Hibs

GLASGOW, Scotland – Rangers kept the pressure on Scottish Premier League leader Celtic with a 4-0 thrashing of 10-man Hibernian on Saturday, with captain Steven Davis grabbing two goals.

Davis opened the scoring in the 27th minute and completed the rout in second-half injury time, with David Healy and Sone Aluko netting in between.

Aluko’s goal came from a free kick conceded by James McPake, who received a second yellow card for the offence on his Hibs debut.

Celtic, whose lead was trimmed to one point, is not in league action this weekend. Instead, Neil Lennon’s team will face Falkirk in the semifinal of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday.

Motherwell tightened its grip on third place, six points ahead of Hearts, by beating St. Johnstone 3-2.
