Halifax RCMP are asking drivers to watch their backs after six tailgates were stolen from pickup trucks late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning in Cow Bay.

“Of course, you get one stolen the odd time, but six in one evening and early morning — first time I’ve come across that,” said police spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin.

The tailgates were all stolen from trucks near the intersection of Cow Bay Road and Dyke Road.

The RCMP believes the thieves stole the tailgates to resell them.

“Thieves definitely knew what they were looking for that evening,” said Taplin.

While Taplin believes this was an isolated incident, he advises people who are concerned to back their truck up against a garage.
