RCMP investigating 'senseless act of vandalism'

Halifax RCMP are investigating what they say is thousands of dollars worth of damages after rocks were thrown through about 50 windows at a seniors complex being built in Lower Sackville.

Police say the vandalism took place over the weekend, but it wasn’t noticed until staff with BD Stevens Limted came to work at the construction site at 345 Cobequid Road on Monday morning.

Police spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said they believe a group in their late teens or early 20s is responsible for the damage, which he estimated in the $30,000 range. He said 45 windows were smashed out on the complex, along with three patio doors and four windows on the construction trailor.

“It’s a totally senseless act of vandalism,” Taplin said.

The 50-bed seniors complex is scheduled to open next spring.
