Mounties seized 2,600 plants from a marijuana grow operation in Barriere yesterday from a rural property that was capable of producing more than 20,000 plants, or half a million joints, per year.

Authorities from Barriere, Clearwater and Kamloops raided the “horse barn-style” facility, which was designed specifically for grow operations.

“I would say that it was definitely a well-run commercial operation where the plants were producing a high yield,” said RCMP Cpl. Chris Newel.

The property housed two levels, seven industrial-sized air conditioning units and 130 1,000-watt bulbs.

The 2,600 plants were confiscated from the upper floor. The plants on the lower level were harvested recently and the section was being prepared for the next batch.

One man was arrested and taken into custody. He will appear at a Kamloops court in October.
