RCMP warns of online ads after alleged sexual assault

A young woman was allegedly sexually assaulted and given a date rape drug after responding to an online personal ad, according to the RCMP.

The alleged attack happened two weeks ago in Chestermere, but officials say the suspect and victim are from Calgary.

Sgt. Patrick Webb is alerting the public because of the strong possibility more people may have responded to the ad, titled “Exchange House With Good Time,” or similar ads.

“We want people to be aware that there is no protection in contacting people in personal ads over the Internet,” said Webb.

Webb said the victim was treated for serious injuries.

Ramanjit Singh Dhaliwal, 32, has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, administering a noxious substance and forcible confinement. He is to appear in Strathmore court Sept. 15.
