When I created the Lunch Rush column, my idea was to cover all lunch options from hot dog stands to fine dining, and I feel I have been achieving this with one exception; the fine dining.

I will be the first to admit that I am a bit naïve when it comes to this level of dining. ‘“Which fork do I use” and “what the heck is that” all come to the top of my mind.

But it is time and so I choose the newly opened Rush restaurant for my foray. What a smart decision that was. Everything about Rush symbolizes fine dining.

It is spacious and includes a separate lounge (complete with open, marble bar), a large walk-in wine cellar that would make any sommelier drool with envy and private dining areas for small groups. The highlight would have to be the Chef’s Table, a private seating area for eight that is located intimately in the kitchen, which puts you in the heart of the restaurant.

The lunch menu was mainly a fixed price menu consisting of a two- or three-course combination of appetizers, main dish and/or dessert. I chose the two-course lunch ($29) and opted for the appetizer of Roasted Pumpkin and Sage Risotto followed by the Swordfish. The meal was delicious and left me wanting to try more.

Rush is what I would call traditional fine dining with a touch of modernity. What impressed me were the little things that make it stand out. The tables have purse hooks, you get complimentary bread and a little appetizer and the salt and pepper comes in a bowl and spoon set. Even the tap water is filtered through an in house system and delivered to your table in a glass bottle.

Rush is made for power lunches and is even the type of place to which you take an out-of-town client for the purpose of impressing.
