Record-setting generosity

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Smashing last year’s Children’s Giving Tree record of 500 toys, this year Husky Energy Inc. made a new record with over 1,100 gifts to donate to several local charities for families and children, according to Husky CEO John Lau.

The toys and gifts are being donated to Inn from the Cold, CUPS Health and Education Centres and Awo Taan Healing Lodge.

“This is a huge effort and makes a huge difference to so many people who need it. This really goes to show what a community can accomplish with their hearts and souls,” Inn from The Cold executive director Yvette Rasmussen said.

“I think this is really great and it shows that the community cares and really makes a difference in the lives of children and a family when they can open presents Christmas day.”

CUPS manager of fundraising Michelle Cameron was also touched by the outpouring of support from those who raised the money for the gifts.

“Last year we were able to help 240 families with the support of the community and this Christmas we can do the same and there is double the gifts,” she said of the second annual event.
