Recycle your Christmas tree at a fundraiser this weekend

The Lions Club and City of Vancouver are hoping to make the daunting task of dismantling your Christmas tree a little easier with a series of tree-chipping fundraising events around town.

Residents — or fans of destruction — are invited to bring their trees to one of four locations on Jan. 9 and 10, where volunteers will shove the Christmas conifers tip-first into wood chippers.

Participants are being asked to bring cash donations or non-perishable food, and should be sure to have removed all decorations and tinsel since the remains of the trees are being composted.

Recycling stations will be set up at parking lots at Kerrisdale Community Ice Rink, Kits Beach, Sunset Beach and Trout Lake Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 4,000 live cut trees were chipped and composted at the Vancouver Landfill at last year’s tree-recycling events.
