Regiment up in arms over mace

A century-old mace belonging to Vancouver’s Seaforth Highlanders has gone AWOL.

The mace was stolen from New Westminster on Oct. 29 when the car it was inside was jacked from a Queens Park Arena parking lot.

“It’s irreplaceable and has significant sentimental value for the regiment and Vancouver,” said Capt. Bill Annand of the Seaforth Highlanders.

The mace isn’t scheduled to appear at tomorrow’s Remembrance Day ceremonies, but it was supposed to head the band at the regiment’s centennial celebration on Nov. 27, Annand said.
