U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg died Monday morning.

The longest-serving senator in New Jersey history died of viral pneumonia, The Bergen Record reports. The five-term Democrat was 89, making him the oldest member of the Senate.

Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, will pick Lautenberg's replacement.
