Re: "Woman reunited with rescuer," Feb. 15:

Just when you want to throw in the towel and call it quits about the seeming hopelessness of mankind, its self-centeredness, and addiction to the "me-first-don’t-give-a-damn-about others" creed, along comes heart warming stories like "Woman reunited with rescuer," to jar the senses back.

(The story) forces you to regain your faith back that no matter how imperfect we are, humankind is neither totally lost, nor damned.

The milk of human kindness and goodness is still luxuriant and all it takes for it to come to the fore is through selfless examples of individuals like Melissa Connell.

I haven’t shed a tear in a long while. Melissa Connell coaxed them from me. Thank you Melissa, you have restored my faith in humankind.
