(Reuters) - Canada's economy added 22,200 jobs in August, mostly in part-time employment, Statistics Canada said on Friday. The jobless rate fell to 6.2 percent in August from 6.3 percent in July, matching the most recent low of October 2008.
The services sector added 35,900 jobs, with gains in the finance, insurance, real estate and leasing sector. The goods producing sector lost a net 13,700 jobs, mostly in manufacturing.
NOTE: Analysts surveyed by Reuters had expected the economy to add 19,000 jobs in August and for the unemployment rate to stay at 6.3 percent. The employment figures are seasonally adjusted. Hourly wage figures are for permanent employees.
