(The Sports Xchange) – Highlights from National Hockey League games on Saturday:
Penguins 4, Panthers 3
Sidney Crosby scored twice, including the winner when he batted the puck out of the air in the third period, as Pittsburgh downed Florida.
Patric Hornqvist and Greg McKegg also scored and Kris Letang added two assists for the Penguins, who are 8-0-2 in their past 10 games against the Panthers with five wins in a row at home.
Matt Murray made 43 saves for Pittsburgh.
Jonathan Huberedau scored twice, Aaron Ekblad also tallied and Evgenii Dadonov had two assists for Florida.
The Panthers’ James Reimer stopped 29 shots.
Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 3 (OT)
The Toronto Maple Leafs snapped a 14-game losing streak against the Montreal Canadiens with a 4-3 overtime victory.
Auston Matthews scored his second goal of the game and fifth of the season 48 seconds into the extra session to give Toronto its first win against Montreal since Jan. 18, 2014.
James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Marleau also scored for the Maple Leafs and Frederik Andersen made 31 saves.
Jeff Petry, Alex Galchenyuk and Jonathan Drouin scored for the Canadiens and Carey Price made 18 saves.
Flyers 8, Capitals 2
Sean Couturier, Scott Laughton and Claude Giroux each netted a pair of goals, and Jakub Voracek and Shayne Gostisbehere each recorded three assists as Philadelphia routed Washington.
Wayne Simmonds and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Flyers and Brian Elliott turned aside 21 shots to earn his third win in his first season.
Lightning 2, Blues 1
Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov scored as Tampa Bay capped off a strong homestand with a victory over St. Louis.
Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has started all five games this season, made 28 saves for the Lightning.
Tampa Bay swept a three-game homestand that included victories against Washington and Pittsburgh. Kucherov has five goals this season.
Jake Allen stopped 25 shots for the Blues, who finished a four-game road 2-2-0. Vladimir Tarasenko scored his fourth goal of the season for St. Louis.
Devils 3, Rangers 2
Miles Wood, Adam Henrique and Drew Stafford each scored a goal as New Jersey defeated New York.
The Devils’ Keith Kinkaid made 29 saves in his first start of the season.
New Jersey defenseman Will Butcher had two assists, giving him eight this season. He leads all rookies with eight points.
Rick Nash and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored for the Rangers, with Shattenkirk’s coming with 56.8 seconds left to complete the scoring. Ondrej Pavelec made 16 saves for New York.
Jets 2, Hurricanes 1
Nikolaj Ehlers scored the deciding goal — his fifth of the season — as Winnipeg won their third successive game.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 28 shots in securing his third victory of the season for the Jets. Bryan Little also scored for Winnipeg.
Jeff Skinner scored and Scott Darling stopped 19 shots for Carolina.
Stars 3, Avalanche 1
Dallas Stars coach Ken Hitchcock won his 783rd career game and passed Al Arbour for the third-most wins in NHL history with a 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche.
Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin each had a goal and an assist for Dallas, while Ben Bishop made 21 saves in the victory.
Seguin also had his first career fight in the third period against former teammate Patrik Nemeth, giving the center his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves for Colorado and kept his team in the game.
Blue Jackets 5, Wild 4 (OT)
Alexander Wennberg scored early in overtime as the Columbus Blue Jackets rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
Columbus (4-1-0) got regulation goals from Zach Werenski, David Savard, Cam Atkinson and Josh Anderson, and Sergei Bobrovsky had 17 saves.
Tyler Ennis scored twice, and Eric Staal and Landon Ferraro had goals for the injury-riddled Wild (1-1-2), who got 30 saves from Devan Dubnyk.
Blackhawks 2, Predators 1 (OT)
Brandon Saad scored the game-winning goal at 3:05 of overtime to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators.
Patrick Sharp scored during regulation for the Blackhawks.
Filip Forsberg scored for the Predators (2-2-1).
Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford stopped 37 shots to pick up his fourth victory. Nashville’s Pekka Rinne made 33 saves.
Bruins 6, Coyotes 2
Zdeno Chara, still a dominant player at age 40, had a goal and two assists and the Boston Bruins rode a three-goal second period to a 6-2 victory over the still-winless Arizona Coyotes.
Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and rookie Jake DeBrusk — the son of former Coyotes player Louie DeBrusk– each had a goal and an assist and backup goaltender Anton Khudobin stopped 29 of 31 shots in his first start of the season.
Arizona, playing under first-year coach Rick Tocchet, remains the Western Conference’s lone winless team at 0-4-1 overall. This is the first time in the franchise’s 38-year NHL history they are winless after five games.
Flames 5, Canucks 2
Johnny Gaudreau scored on a power play and Mark Giordano recorded a short-handed goal as the Calgary Flames defeated the Vancouver Canucks.
Dougie Hamilton had a goal and assist for the Flames, while Sean Monahan and Travis Hamonic also scored for Calgary.
Jaromir Jagr had an assist for his first point since signing with the Flames as a free agent Oct. 4.
Derek Dorsett and Brock Boeser scored for the Canucks.
Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 shots. Calgary’s Mike Smith made 27 saves.
Kings 4, Sabres 2
Dustin Brown, Tyler Toffoli and Drew Doughty scored the first power-play goals of the season for Los Angeles in its victory over Buffalo.
The Kings came in 0-for-16 on the power play this season, but Brown tied the score 1-1 on Los Angeles’ first power play of the game. Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for the Kings.
Zemgus Girgensons finished off a 2-on-1 with Jack Eichel at 15:45 of the first period to score the Sabres first goal at Staples Center since Jan. 21, 2010.
Eichel scored Buffalo’s other goal.
Islanders 3, Sharks 1
Thomas Greiss made 40 saves to lead New York over San Jose.
Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Cal Clutterbuck scored for the Islanders.
Kevin Labanc scored for San Jose and backup goaltender Aaron Dell made 20 saves in his first start of the season.
Senators 6, Oilers 1
Mike Hoffman and Kyle Turris each had three-point nights and Mike Condon made 34 saves for the Senators as they beat the Edmonton Oilers.
