The New York Mets agreed to a minor league deal with veteran right-hander Ervin Santana on Friday, and multiple reports indicated outfielder Matt Kemp also signed a similar deal.

Santana struggled with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season, going 0-2 with a 9.45 ERA in three starts. He served up six homers in just 13 1/3 innings before being designated for assignment.

After clearing waivers, Santana chose to become a free agent. The 36-year-old still must pass a physical to make the deal official.

Santana was an American League All-Star for the Minnesota Twins in 2017 when he went 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA and three shutouts in 33 starts.

An injury to his right middle finger, however, sabotaged his 2018 campaign as he went 0-1 with an 8.03 ERA in five starts.

Overall, Santana is 149-127 with a 4.09 ERA in 387 appearances (384 starts) over 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2005-12), Kansas City Royals (2013), Atlanta Braves (2014), Twins (2015-18) and White Sox.

Kemp, 34, started the season with Cincinnati and was released on May 5 after batting .200 with one homer and five RBIs.

He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2006-14, 2018), San Diego Padres (2015-16) and Atlanta Braves (2016-17).

His best season came in 2011, when he slugged 39 home runs, drove in 126 and scored 115 runs. He finished second in Most Valuable Player voting. He appeared in three All-Star games.

For his career, he has 281 home runs and 1,010 RBIs.
