“This tremulous beginning launched a love affair of 17 years and counting,” he recently wrote to GO Transit. It also turned out to be the winning story of romance on the rails among 133 entries in GO Transit’s first Valentine’s Day contest.

Tom and Lorraine of Whitby — they didn’t want their last name published — won a Niagara Falls getaway by garnering 466 of 947 votes registered by visitors to GO’s website.

Tom’s tale ends with an on-board proposal, with a wedding band inscribed “Mr. GO Train.”

The runner-up was Darlene, who charmed the clueless object of her affections by Googling the answers to the daily crossword, so she could “help” him on the ride home on the?Pickering train.
