Ride lots morph into park and pay

Commuters who use park and ride lots should get ready to dig a little deeper into their wallets over the next six weeks.

Commuters who use park and ride lots should get ready to dig a little deeper into their wallets over the next six weeks.

Beginning Monday, Calgary Transit will charge $3 for those who park at the Shawnessy, Whitehorn and Brentwood stations and will impose the same fee at more lots every week until the end of May when all 33 will require payment.

Transit spokesman Ron Collins said since the first three pay lots were launched on March 16, there have been a few bumps with users flocking to find free parking in nearby neighbourhoods or other lots.

But with between three and four stations starting to charge for parking every week, he believes Calgarians will come to terms with the controversial charge.

“As we continue to phase this in there will be more acceptance,” he said.
