Robert Dziekanski’s mother marks his birthday by laying flowers at airport

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Robert Dziekanski’s mother marked what would have been his 42nd birthday by laying flowers at Vancouver’s airport, where he died following a fateful encounter with RCMP.

Zofia Cisowski flew in from her home in Kamloops, B.C., and left flowers, two candles and a get-well-soon card near where her son collapsed and died on the floor of the airport arrivals area.

Dziekanski had been stunned several times with a Taser by Mounties, who were summoned after he’d started throwing furniture.

Dziekanski was emigrating from Poland, and planned to join his mother here in Canada.

Airport staff escorted Cisowski into a secure area through the same doors her son is seen blocking on an amateur video of the incident.

A public inquiry into Dziekanski’s death continues.
