Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson has challenged St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay to a mayoral rumble ahead of tonight’s first game between the Canucks and the Blues.

Robertson issued the challenge yesterday, when he proclaimed April 14 Canucks Day in Vancouver.

“I’m going to try to make contact with the mayor of St. Louis formally and see if we can come to terms on an appropriate challenge or wager that’s official,” Robertson said.

“We’re going to have to get clear on when it’s a boo, when it’s a Lu and when it’s a Blues,” he added.

Members of city council, Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini and team mascot Fin gathered outside city hall yesterday to raise the Canucks flag.

Robertson said by declaring April 14 Canucks Day, the city and its residents are honouring the team, coaches, training staff and Fin for their hard work.
