A POSE BY ANY OTHER NAME… After the lawsuit that saw a minor punk band force a newly minted supergroup to abandon the name Supernova, we’ve just learned that Jason Newsted, Gilby Clarke, Tommy Lee and their lead singer Lukas Rossi have come up with a new name for their band.
The stars and winner of CBS’ Rock Star: Supernova have decided to call their band … Rock Star Supernova. (“That is so wicked, man!” “I know — it’s like, we get to bake our cake and … uh … eat it, too.” “Totally. And it’s a lot better than Prostate Protektor. By the way, you guys owe me 20 bucks each for the copyright on that.”)
On an official MSN chat site devoted to the show, “fans” reacted with amused disbelief, and came up with their own names for the band. As Ken Barnes, music critic for USA Today said on his Listen Up! blog, “if your fan base is already this cynical, it doesn’t bode well for the long-term future.” Here are some excerpts:
