James Rodd won the leadership of the Prince Edward Island New Democratic Party by acclamation Saturday during the party’s annual general meeting and leadership convention in Charlottetown. He had been the interim leader since 2007.

Rodd is taking over a party that is in disarray, which was made abundantly clear when he was the only candidate for the top job. He said the party is in countdown mode to the next provincial election in 2011 and he wants to be ready to fight it by June 30, 2011.
