Globefish fashions part of its menu after an izakaya, a kind of tapas bar common in Japan for post-work drinking and snacking. That means on top of the standard sushi and sashimi, there’s a great selection of cooked dishes.

Ebil chili mayo ($8.95) are plump, lightly battered prawns drizzled with chili mayonnaise. Chicken nanban ($8.95), delicious to say, is even more delicious to eat: big meaty chunks of slightly sweet and sour chicken.

Tuna and salmon isobe age ($9.95) is a contrast of textures as a lightly fried roll for an exterior crunch, with a cool centre of luscious tuna and salmon sashimi.

Globefish’s showcase dishes are their special sushi rolls, most with playful names and seriously creative ingredients.

The Crunch & Munch roll ($13.95) consists of prawn tempura, cucumber and tobiko (fish roe) wrapped with unagi (eel) and avocado with a bit of creamy wasabi sauce.

The Delicious Roll ($15.95) features chopped scallop, crab, avocado and mango wrapped with prawn, with a white wine lemon sauce and black tobiko.

If you still have room after the massive rolls, treat your sweet tooth to mochi ($6.95), a mound of ice cream wrapped in a skin of pounded glutinous rice.

BRUNCH AT THE INN
Chef’s Table at the Kensington Riverside Inn (1126 Memorial Dr. NW) is now serving brunch on the weekends (8 a.m. to1 p.m.). Brioche French toast and three kinds of Benedicts are on the menu.

HAPPY HOUR
Catch (100 8th Ave. S.E.) is holding high tide happy hour from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day and offering six oysters and two glasses of champagne for $20.
