Roller hockey boy hit by van

An 11-year-old boy playing roller hockey in the street has been struck by a van.

His injuries are said to be “potentially life-threatening.”

The boy was playing on Irving Street in Dartmouth around 3:30 p.m. on Monday when a van rolled through.

“The boy was on one side of the street and the group (of kids) was on the other,” said Const. Brian Palmeter. “He was struck by the van and it continued on.”

Police found the van a short time later.

The driver and passenger said they didn’t know they had hit the child.

Palmeter said the driver was very distressed to learn he hit the boy.

“At first we didn’t believe his injuries were as serious as they are and (they have been) categorized as potentially life-threatening.”
