Rooming house objections raised

Toronto City Council will soon decide once and for all whether to zone and license rooming houses throughout Toronto.

But politicians from Scarborough and North York, where rooming houses are illegal but still found in abundance, are objecting saying they don’t want transients in their areas.

City planners are crafting an overall draft zoning bylaw that would harmonize bylaws created by the pre-amalgamation municipalities. The old city of Toronto, Etobicoke and York permit rooming houses, but not Scarborough, North York or East York.
