Roping ‘reunion’

Tug off the ties and dump the dress shoes — cowboy hats look much better with jeans.

This year’s Calgary Stampede is forecasted to be “the best ever” according to George Brookman, of the Calgary Stampede board, who launched the lineup for the 2008 Calgary Stampede yesterday at the Round Up Centre.

First-ever Stampede queen, Patsy Rodgers, who first waved to the crowds in 1946, will be this year’s parade marshal. One-hundred previous Stampede queens and princesses from across the globe will join Rodgers at this year’s parade.

“This will be a big reunion,” Rodgers said.

There are sure to be tears in some eyes as the name synonymous with chuckwagon racing at the Stampede, Joe Carbury, will call his last races of the Rangeland Derby — retiring after nearly 50 years.
“It won’t be the same without you,” Brookman said.
