Roxborough receives an award for Ridge Avenue

Thirty-seven businesses, mostly small, local establishments serving the communities of Roxborough and Manayunk, have improved their storefronts in the last six months through $200,000 in city funding. The project has been such a success in sprucing up life along Ridge Avenue between Lycoming and Lyceum streets that it was given an award by the city this month.

The Roxborough Community Development Corporation received a “Blue Ribbon Award” from the Philadelphia Association of CDCs for the program called “Targeted Facade Program.”

“It’s an exciting time in Roxborough. Within these two blocks, we’ve shown how to improve Ridge Avenue for everyone,” Roxborough CDC executive director Bernard Guet said.

The area will also receive identifying street signs that will read “Roxborough” to give it a more definitive feel, Guet said.
