Running man to slow down for torch

Every runner hits the ground in the hopes of running harder, faster or longer than the last time but one runner is hoping to record his slowest time yet this Thursday.

The founder of the Edmonton-based Running Room, John Stanton, will be making the most memorable run of his life this week as he carries the Olympic torch a short 300 metres in Pickering, Ont.

“I will probably run the slowest I have ever run to make it last as long as possible,” said Stanton.

Inspiring people to find their inner athlete and motivating people to strive towards healthier lifestyles through his books and running clubs, Stanton was a natural choice for the torch relay team.

“I am not just running for myself, I am running for every runner that wakes up every morning that is a mom or dad who is trying to raise a family and exercise,” said Stanton.

The Running Room was founded in 1984 and has expanded out of the one-room location in an old house to now 99 locations across Canada and the United States.
