The Saint Mary’s Huskies suffered a devastating blow on Friday with news that Hec Crighton-award winning quarterback Erik Glavic is headed to the Calgary Dinos.
Glavic, entering his third year of eligibility, was Canadian Interuniversity Sport football’s player of the year in 2007, but missed most of last season with a knee injury. He informed the Huskies last week he was transferring.
“Erik is an exceptional football player who has the ability to be a difference-maker for us,” said Dinos head coach Blake Nill, who is a former head coach of the Huskies.
Said Huskies head coach Steve Sumarah: “Regardless of where he plays next season, Erik will always be an honoured part of Huskies’ football success.”
The Huskies immediately named Jack Creighton starting quarterback. Creighton was MVP of last year’s Atlantic University Sport Loney Bowl.
