Scary stats for Nova Scotia’s health

For the province that has the highest blood pressure in the country, a lot can be done for health promotion and prevention.

Cardiologist Jafna Cox pulled out some pretty scary numbers about the state of health of Nova Scotians at a press conference yesterday.

“High blood pressure, cholesterol abnormalities, diabetes, obesity, and sedentary living are all more prevalent than they ever were, especially in Atlantic Canada,” he said.

Children are increasingly overweight, inactive and not eating properly, he added.

“The trend over the past 1,000 years of a steady increase of life expectancy is coming to an end . . . projections are for parents to begin to outlive their children.”
