A Morinville middle school teacher has been charged in the alleged sexual assault of two students.

Mounties confirmed yesterday a male teacher from Georges H. Primeau Middle School has been charged with two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.

The accused has not been named publicly to protect the identities of two alleged victims.

The students notified teachers of the alleged assaults Friday. The school contacted police immediately, and charges were laid Monday.

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools Supt. David Keohane said the school board is taking the allegations “extremely seriously,” adding he has been in contact with the parents of the two students.

The incidents happened independently of each other within the past two years and didn’t follow a pattern, Morinville RCMP Cpl. Jason Zazulak said.

The school has about 375 students in grades 6 to 8.
