Alberta Education is giving the school system very good overall marks over the latest provincial test results.

The results show a slight increase in the number of students achieving excellent or acceptable results in some core subjects.

But Education Minister Dave Hancock says the number of people who fail to complete high school, especially aboriginal students, remains a concern.

The overall completion rate is up slightly to 71.5 per cent.

Only about one out of every three aboriginal students completes high school, although those who do remain in class are scoring higher test results.

Hancock says a drop in test results in some English courses shows that the ability of students to critically analyze what they read and write has declined.
