The Calgary Board of Education celebrated its commitment to energy conservation by announcing over a half-million in savings in its electricity challenge.

According to the CBE’s energy and environmental services department, the school system reduced its electricity consumption by 4.2 per cent and decreased electrical intensity by 5.6 per cent across the system.

Four schools that proved to be “electricity conservation champions” received prizes from the CBE challenge partners, ATCO EnergySense and Bullfrog Power.

The CBE 10 Per Cent Electricity Challenge is part of the board’s three-year education plan.

The CBE has over 80 environmental stewardship projects ongoing throughout its schools.
