Science centre names CEO

Not wanting to just be a place for a rainy day and with visions of creating more partnerships, the Telus World of Science announced a new president and CEO.

Jennifer Martin, former vice-president of operations for the science centre, was elevated to the position of president and CEO to spearhead the effort to build the country’s largest science centre here in Calgary.

“I’m so excited to be able to bring all of the wonderful ideas I have seen from around the country to the city and I think it is a really good opportunity,” Martin told Metro.

“I think we’re looking to form more partnerships within the community and engage the public. We want to be able to give back to the community and involve them, too,” she added.

Martin has 21 years of experience with various science centres including the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, and is excited to be a part of the three-year plan before the new centre opens up by the Calgary Zoo, which Martin said will have a positive impact on the entire province.

The Telus World of Science Centre was happy the experienced Martin accepted the position and didn’t have to look farther than its doors to find her.

“After a nationwide executive search, we were pleased to confirm that the best possible candidate was already a member of the team,” board of directors chair Don Kjosness said.
