Science centre will enthrall a geek near you

Calgary’s self-professed geeks will be excited to learn construction of the new Telus World of Science is running slightly ahead of schedule.

That’s according to president and CEO Jennifer Martin, who led a tour of the new facility yesterday.

She predicts the centre, at the northwest corner of Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive, will be open as early as next fall and service curious visitors of all ages.

“Science, technology, innovation, creativity touches all of us one way or another,” she said.

“So, you have to really design thinking about those different audiences.

“This is really a science centre for the entire community.”

Martin said the original science centre, which is still open at 701-11th St. SW, has simply outgrown its means.

She said the new centre will take digital technology integration to a new level, allowing visitors to interact using their smartphones and to link up with people around the world.

Other features will include a mock glacier and the ability to project images on the outside of the building.
