Kids and families took advantage of a sunny Sunday to experience some hands-on science at Natural Resources Canada’s Science FunFest at the Booth Street Complex and the Experimental Farm yesterday.
They panned for gold, got up close and personal with live insects, and checked out over 70 other educational displays and activities.
Bart Tecter, a member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, brought a couple of his telescopes for the curious to try out, including a specially filtered one for looking at the sun.
“I get little kids that look at Saturn and they see the rings and they’re just thrilled with it,” he said.
“It’s a lot of fun to give people that opportunity, and it really helps to encourage some interest in astronomy.”
Denise Inglis brought her daughters Margaret and Rebecca to FunFest for the third year in a row.
“This is a great way for kids to get exposed to all different science topics and we love it,” she said.
